Did Internet porn do in Google China's Kai-Fu Lee?

One last (huge) bit of China news--Google China head Kai-Fu Lee has resigned. (Hat tip, Gen Kanai, confirmed by WSJ.) Theories abound as to why, with some alleging that it was the government's recent blistering attack on Google for serving as a gateway to Internet porn (as part of the Party's propaganda push for the installation of Green Dam Youth Escort censorship software on all PCs sold in China), and others simply suggesting that Lee felt it was time to move on.

Google has made headway into the Chinese search market, but at less than a third of overall share, still trails local option Baidu badly. Either way, it's a blow to Google, which if you recall engaged in a legal showdown with former Lee employer Microsoft over his services.

Lee reportedly is starting a venture fund to invest in young Chinese entrepreneurs. more power to him.
